Thoughts on Holiday Decorating…

We all want to kick it up a notch in the winter, warm up our homes, and cheer up our families and friends! Here’s Part 2 of our Holiday Decorating Tips & Tricks:

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT!  There can never be too many candles during the      holidays — nestle candles of every shape and size into your table and hearth greens. Place them anywhere you feel you’re having a dull moment and LIGHT THEM! Do not plan on saving them from year to year — burning your candles can create a special atmosphere in any home.

A perfect example is the “under-the-sea” tree Jana Design Interiors created as our entry for the Festival of Trees (a fundraising event held last winter benefiting SFVMAPS Charities and One Generation). Our tree was entitled “Seaside Yuletide” and started with a watery-blue tree.  Real starfish and seashells dipped in glue and glitter were transformed into shimmering ornaments.

We handcrafted dazzling fish and mermaids carrying gifts, with ribbon tails wound through the blue “sea” tree. The tree-topper was a 10-inch starfish!

Displayed on a beige blanket encrusted with beach sand and sparkles, we could imagine the winning bidder taking it to their beach house in Malibu and enjoying our seaside fantasy throughout the season.

With themed decorating, it’s best  to   start early so you can gather         your supplies more economically. In fact, starting a year ahead is a great way to collect items for themed decorating, as you can watch for sales at all your favorite stores. Get going now, so you can enjoy the fruits of your efforts and have plenty of time to invite your friends and loved ones to share in the festivities!
