As an interior designer, I often have the opportunity to decorate clients’ homes during the holidays.

Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, or Kwanza, party on New Year’s or simply enhance your décor for the season, here are a few of my favorite non-denominational solutions:

GO GREEN! That term means a lot of things these days, but during holiday time it means bringing the outside in with greenery used for garlands, wreaths, archway toppers, and table trimmings. Enhance your green foliage with lighting, by adding colored ribbons and bows, or tighten the color scheme by using exclusively gold and silver trimmings for a magical effect.

GET BOBBLED! Add clear, tinted, or sparkled glass bobbles to your trailing greens. Hang lightweight glittering ornaments from your wall sconces and chandeliers. Play with scale — add lots of tiny ones to reflect a lot of light, or go with over-sized orbs for sophisticated drama.
