The Bedroom: A Place To Take a Chance

home interior designer

When you open your eyes in the morning, what do you see?

Does your bedroom reflect the success you feel as a person, or the positive attitude you want to invoke in your day?

janadesigns_robin_madb8ebd-minWhether you’re sharing this space with the love of your life, still looking for that certain someone or happy with who you are, your surroundings should reflect your feelings and goals.

We’re not just “what we eat” — we’re profoundly affected by our environment and attitudes.  Think of your bedroom as a 3-D visualization board; the last vision you see before you sleep and the first things you see in the morning help you feel exactly like the person you’re glad to be, or want to become!

Bedroom Before & After

Bedroom Before & After

As the photos depict, the furniture in this master bedroom was out of scale, from a more youthful time in the couple’s lives. The lighting was dark and the window (with a view of the perfectly designed and maintained pool and yard) was blocked by non-functioning drapes, the TV and assorted visual “noise.” The existing furniture placement yielded barely enough walking space and even that was cluttered.

When our client realized she needed to regain her positivity and reflect the warm, brilliant, romantic women she IS, we were thrilled to help her realize her goals. We repurposed some great family furniture pieces, rearranged the room to create a positive flow and shifted the importance of the “mind-numbing” TV to a functional spot across from the bed. The wall colors and bedding became softer and warmer to reflect anyone’s skin tones in a more flattering light.  In addition, we added multiple new sources of light that enhanced the room’s functionality, and we added romantic sparkle.

The visual “heat” now blanketing the room is the fabric we chose for the draperies, upholstered boudoir chair and accent pillow. The upholstered headboard adds texture and scale, framing the bed on the largest wall in the room.  The drapes open easily now to allow the lovely view to fill the space and inspire our client, or close over the length of the wall — making the room feel larger and warmer at the same time.

Whether you want to be filled with the feeling of fresh ocean air or the warmth of a mountain retreat, or whether you want to express your eclectic love of travel or simply exhibit your feeling (or goal) of prosperity, the bedroom should be the first room in your home where you take chances. Push the limits of color and shapes, and make a personal statement.  This can bring a couple closer, enrich a single person’s true self image and perhaps even draw in a special someone, if that’s what you desire!
