Photo Wall Ideas

Jana Design Interiors

A great idea for large open wall space is a photo wall.  They can be all family photos or themed from your travels.  You can make them all black and white for a subtle look or full color.  If you’re creating a wall for a growing family, use frames that are easy to slip the pictures in and out of, so the wall can change as fast as your kids grow-up!

For a random effect, make a paper template of all your frames and number both the frame and the template.  Start at the middle of the wall and arrange the rectangles and squares to create a pattern using uniform spacing between the templates.  Work the layout up and down and side to side until you achieve a balanced look.

Once the layout looks good to you, begin to hang the frames starting from the middle and working out, keeping the spacing even.  In this example, a uniform 2 inch spacing has been used.  The numbering system will help make sure each frame is hung in the planned space.

If you know you will be adding to the wall over time, a random layout is best.  However, a very organized and more subtle wall can be achieved by creating a geometric grid of frames.
